A friend of mine messaged me the other day to ask where I find all the "cool stuff" online. It's a question I get a lot.

I use a strategy that I refer to as "Standing on the shoulders of giants" - I have places I can go where I quickly find content that is A+ or already went semi-viral.

I want to find recent and relevant content to either share with my audience or to inspire me to create an original piece of content.

Here are 4 reliable resources for finding content that's worth sharing. I often visit them to get inspired before writing an email blast, blog post or Facebook Ad:

1. What better way to know a story is share-worthy than to see just how many people already shared it? Whether you find a story just as it's exploding, or you're a little late to the party, BuzzSumo is an awesome resource for finding content based on keywords, websites and popularity. BuzzSumo is my #1 resource for developing great monthly email blasts for our clients at Curaytor.

2.If you've seen an inspirational video online in the last couple years, chances are Upworthy has it on their site. They house a great collection of stories (broken down into categories like Health, Environment, Humanity & Culture, etc.) designed to make their readers feel a little better every day.

3. Another easy-to-use site for finding buzzy content is ViralNova, with tons of videos, lists, and interesting stories being added all the time. Just be careful in the OMG and Science sections. While writing this post, I ended up watching a video of a python throwing up a goat. Seriously. Be careful.

4. It's one of the most popular social site's least utilized features, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try building a Twitter List. Build a list consisting of a combination of local reporters, media outlets, national news outlets in your field, financial advisers and bloggers. It makes it easy to tune out the noise on Twitter and focus in on the newest and best information about a specific field or area.
