After two years in Orlando, Curaytor is bringing its annual event south by southwest, where its top-producing real estate clients will learn, network and grow on digital’s bleeding edge (with or without a margarita in hand).
The conference begins with a welcome reception on October 11th and ends on the14th, which means attendees will enjoy Texas’ charming capital in perfect weather (Editor's Note: the author is a proud Austin native).
They’ll also relish the venue: the new Fairmont Austin: a luxury, five-star downtown hotel that opens just two months before the conference.
The theme for this year’s conference is Growth Rules, which tracks with Curaytor’s own evolution and that of many of its growing roster of clients. The expected 1,000 attendees will learn how to manage all aspects of their growth with Curaytor and their colleagues, many of whom are blazing the digital trail.

So much of building a business is knowing what to focus on and when.

Curaytor clients know Mackin and fellow Curaytor co-founder Chris Smith are usually two steps ahead, peeking around the corner. As such, attendees will learn insights and practical takeaways that address what's next no matter where they are in their business: emerging, polishing or scaling.
Growth + “known compromises”
Mackin calls knowing the aspects of your business that need work but take a back seat to more critical, timely needs as "known compromises."
Part of growing efficiently and sustainably is knowing where your company must improve, and addressing only the most vital needs at the right time. Without that discernment, work and effort will spiral and a company’s trajectory will do the same.
For example, until recently Mackin and Smith had their hands all over the day-to-day operation of the business. As the firm shoots past $10 million in recurring revenue and begins to expand its sights, both perform roles more removed from the everyday.
They’re now focused on scaling, bringing in the best people, training and coaching them, building growth plans to keep them, honing the firm’s systems and channels, and thinking big for the company’s next steps.
“Now it’s so much more about the people than the product,” Mackin said.
“Changing location is a big decision,” Mackin said.
The choice to go middle of the country was one part practical and one part style. Since it’s about halfway between East and West, Austin will make the event more accessible to Curaytor’s West Coast clients.
Austin also mirrors Curaytor’s relaxed, but sharp style. The city’s reputation for innovation and forward-thinking aligns perfectly with the firm’s own philosophy -- “help, not hype.”
Who you’ll meet
Curaytor Excellence attendees play a bigger role in making the conference great than many you'll attend. Camaraderie and masterminding are baked into its design and part of what makes it so vibrant.
Santa Barbara agent and Curaytor client Maureen McDermut attended both previous Curaytor Excellence events and said of this one, “I wouldn’t miss it for anything.”
“It’s the most hands-on conference I have ever attended,” she added.
As a Curaytor client two years running, McDermut’s on her own growth curve. She became a team before the last event and brought her associate, Taryn Martin, to experience Excellence and learn in person.
Martin has become McDermut’s Curaytor systems lieutenant. As participants in Curaytor’s ongoing coaching classes and mastermind community on Facebook, she and McDermut knew many of the systems in theory.
But the conference "really brought that knowledge to life by providing an up-close window into the detailed strategies other Curaytor clients use to get results," Martin said.
