"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Bullshit.

Whoever said that quote probably stole it from somebody else.

If you've ever been copied by your competition, you know what I'm talking about.

Your initial reaction is WTF.

As entrepreneurs, we are all fighting for that edge. The unique feature or service that only we can offer our clients that our competitors don't have.

The proverbial extra "check" in the feature matrix.

Once the frustration wears off, how do you react?

The temptation is to become more secretive.

Don't fall for it.

Customers are smart. They know the difference between a real thing and knock off. They might not be able to articulate it but they can feel it.

Our value to our customers is not defined by specific features or services, rather it's a combination of all the little things that add up to one big competitive advantage.

So the next time your competition rips you off, remember that you can't ride a wake forever, you can only hope to hold.

If you didn't get the analogy: you're the one driving the damn boat, so hit the throttle!
