I've used MagicJack + Google Voice for several years now and it's terrific. The only time the MagicJack has an issue with call clarity is if someone else here in my house is downloading a large file or FTP'ing files. We use Comcast cable. We have no land line, but I also use a Skype In phone number and occasionally, my cell.
As far as ease of use, Joomla is smack in the middle. Way easier to learn than Drupal but much more powerful and scalable than Wordpress. Wordpress is a CMS but it's primary function is blogging. Joomla runs many popular sites like LAWeekly.com, Dennis Kucinich, Samuel L. Jackson, Linux.com and many others. If you want a quick, visual look at how to run the backend of Joomla you can check out a few training videos I created http://youtube.com/hilinehomespuyallup
Jeff Chalmers - it depends on what you end up using to create your custom tab(s). Some apps, free or not, come with the option to throw in a link that you'll be redirecting to. Others, not so much. I'd opt for finding a tool that comes with that option, unless you feel like digging through code. Also, you will need SSL, as mentioned above, for feeding external data into FB:-)
Melissa Rose Zavala - why not browse right here? Go through the vendor doc or contact one of the very well respected firms who have representation in this group: Laura Monroe, Suzanne Roy or Cheryl Allin-Bergstrom
I'm assuming your class will be filled with social media newbies - Start with FB and WP. Don't mention any other network as it just creates info overload. The socially savvy agents will already be on the other networks and probably won't be in your class.
I allow my visitors to see three full search results before asking them to register. Why? Because I tested the crap out of it and that gave me the best results for what I wanted to accomplish -- maximizing prospect generation count.
